Marigold is the best mother in this house and it is not close. She is attentive to the point of comedy: for the first fortnight she barely leaves the pen, and she counts. If a puppy has wandered slightly further than she likes, she gets up and fetches it back before it has noticed it has gone.
Away from a litter she is a calm, easy, biddable dog who would like very much to be included in whatever is happening, and who will settle immediately if the answer is no.
Her puppies come out of the pen unusually settled, and I think that is her doing rather than ours. A relaxed mother produces relaxed puppies, and there is no shortcut around it.

How we choose which dogs to breed
All of our parent dogs are health-checked by our veterinarian and looked over before any breeding. We breed only healthy, well-tempered dogs from our own line, and we have raised our litters with no known hereditary health problems. We do not make formal certification claims, because we do not run formal certification programmes, and a claim we cannot back is worth less than nothing to you.
Temperament decides more than looks do. A dog who is anxious, sharp, or unhappy around people does not go into a litter here, whatever else is true about her.
