Red Golden Retrievers

2 red puppies are looking for a family right now.

A red Golden Retriever is a Golden Retriever. There is no separate breed, no separate line you have to go looking for, and nothing about the colour that makes a dog healthier, calmer, or better at anything. What you are looking at is the same single pigment every Golden carries, expressed about as strongly as it goes.
People come to us wanting red more often than any other shade, and I understand why. A deep russet coat in evening light is a genuinely beautiful thing. What I will tell every one of them is the same: pick the puppy, not the colour. A red puppy who is wrong for your household will still be wrong for your household in four years, and by then the novelty of the coat will have worn off entirely.
Red puppies here are priced exactly the way every other puppy is priced, on the individual dog. If you find a breeder charging a premium for a shade, ask them what the shade actually buys you, and listen carefully to the answer.
One practical note. Red puppies often darken as they grow, so a puppy who looks a warm gold at eight weeks can end up noticeably deeper by his first birthday. The ears are the best early clue: whatever colour the ear feathering is at eight weeks tends to be roughly where the adult coat lands.

Every shade a Golden Retriever comes in

A Golden Retriever's coat can only carry one pigment, and every shade from the palest cream to deep mahogany is that single pigment expressed more or less strongly. There is no such thing as a white Golden Retriever, and no such thing as a black one. Colour tells you nothing about health or temperament, and we price a puppy on the individual dog rather than on the shade of its coat.

The full written guide, shade by shade, is in our colour guide.
